Volunteering and Collectivism

Ōtepoti Collective Against Sexual Abuse runs an annual Volunteer Training Programme. The training takes place over a month and consists of weekends and some evening workshops. Our training covers topics such as:
  • Rape and Sexual Abuse Awareness
  • Power and Oppression
  • Boundaries and Self-care
  • LGBTQIA+ Awareness
  • Collectivism
  • Suicide and Self Harm
  • Crisis and Phone Support.

Trainee volunteers have the opportunity to network with other local services, such as the:
  • Police Adult Sexual Assault Team
  • Dunedin Sexual Assault Clinic
  • Courts Victim Advisors.

Participating in our Volunteer Training Programme does not guarantee Collective membership. If you are interested in Volunteering, please get in touch with our Office and ask for an application form.

The Ōtepoti Collective Against Sexual Abuse works on a collective principle which means that all members of the Collective are involved in any decision making that takes place regarding the running of the organisation – financial and otherwise.

All members attend monthly Collective meetings and Supervision to ensure that they are providing the best possible service for clients, while obtaining the support they need.

We understand that this training or being a Collective member may not be for everyone, especially when juggling daily life, work or study!

We do have other opportunities for the community to get involved and help out our organisation!

For more information, please get in touch with our Office.

Healing doesn't mean the damage never existed. It means the damage no longer controls our lives.
