Ōtepoti Communities Against Sexual Abuse (ŌCASA) is a not-for-profit, community support organisation dedicated to supporting our communities to heal from sexual harm. Our mission is to reduce and eliminate sexual violence and to address its impacts on survivors and the wider community. ŌCASA’s survivor support services are free, confidential and available to people of all backgrounds and includes Social Work, Counselling, crisis support and Court Support. Our team of professionals are experienced and trained to ensure that survivors of sexual violence receive the support and service they deserve.
ŌCASA is a dynamic professional organisation that has evolved and developed considerably in the last few years. The current Governance Committee need your skill and experience to ensure the organisation continues its current trajectory to meet its potential and realises its strategic goals and aims.
The Management Committee are seeking expressions of interest from members of the public to join the Society to broaden its membership across Ōtepoti’s communities. As a society member you will participate in the overall wellbeing of the organisation by attending Annual General Meetings and General Meetings, voting in Committee members who are drawn from the general membership, undertake possible volunteer opportunities on sub-Committees or special projects and perhaps eventually sit on the Governance Committee. We are looking for experienced people who can bring a wide range of skills and interests to the organisation including; therapeutic experience, survivor experience, cultural knowledge and skills, managerial, financial and legal skills and knowledge.
As a Committee member you will play a pivotal role in the strategic direction of one of Dunedin’s most iconic grass roots organisations that works to eliminate sexual violence and reduce its harms on the community. This is a perfect opportunity for those wishing to hone their governance skills, while making a difference in the community. Committee members are provided training to ensure they understand the specialised nature of working in the sexual violence sector and can fulfil their governance roles. As a new Committee member you will be supported by a mentor to support you to understand Rape Crisis Dunedin’s constitution, history and its importance in the community. Committee members are also offered an honorarium and travel costs to attend monthly meetings.
Note: Volunteers, Society and Committee members do not work with Survivors but may be invited to support the organisation in other ways that will make a difference in people’s lives.
